open concept living room and music room

If you want to elevate your home, I definitely recommend using Venetian plaster in your living room! It is only after I used Venetian plaster in our kitchen that I discovered the beauty and advantages of this natural and environmentally-friendly material.

The first time we used Venetian Plaster

When we did our custom range hood in the kitchen, I worked with Venilux Quebec to try their product. I certainly fell in love with it. By and large, it added an organic feel to the kitchen, a special element that stands out and makes the range hood a statement. So evidently, after completing this project, I knew that I had to use the leftover plaster elsewhere in our home.

So, the first thing that came to mind was our arched built-in in the living room, which now also serves as a music room since we have two separate living room spaces. A few years ago, we renovated this space and added an arched built-in that I love. As I was designing our home with a modern Mediterranean vibe and organic design elements, an arch was a must. I wanted something with storage and shelves to display decor to style and restyle as I like to do 🙂

Having Venetian plaster on the arched built-in in the living room just made sense and would fit right in with the design of the space. Now, if you want details on how to apply this material, check out my article on the custom range hood. What I really want to talk about here is why you should consider adding such an element in your living room, of course if it goes with your style.

A living room is a place for connection and where you host people. It is usually a space where you put in a lot of effort to make it pretty and welcoming for both yourself, family and guests. since Venetian plaster is also considered as a decorative material, it fits right in a living room.

Venetian plaster also gives a custom look to your living room that is aesthetically pleasing with many other benefits.

Here’s why using Venetian plaster in your living room adds value

  • It’s a natural, environmentally-friendly and toxin free material
  • It prevents mold
  • It is low maintenance
  • It can be customizable with a colour of your choice
  • It’s durable and easy to clean
  • It’s very easy to apply
  • It makes a statement by adding interest, texture and softness
  • It’s timeless – it has been used for ages
  • It’s elegant and has an earthy and organic feel to it
  • It is also modern and trendy and taught to increase your home value because of its aesthetic and natural aspects

Where can you use Venetian plaster in your living room?

There are many ways you can use this beautiful material in your home. But, more specifically in a living room, Venetian plaster can be applied to various elements both on large or smaller surfaces, such as:

  • A fireplace
  • An entire feature wall
  • A ceiling
  • All the living room
  • On built-ins if you have them
  • On shelves
  • On furniture such as tables, benches, etc.

A before and after look at the arched built-in

I certainly loved our arched built-in as it was before, however, adding the Venetian plaster to it made all the difference. Upon coming into the living room, it made the built-in stand out in a soft and beautiful way directing the eyes towards both a sculptural and aesthetic element.

Certainly, adding the Venetian plaster made me want to do more for this feature element in our living room. So I decided to cover the shelves with another leftover I had. We put a marble look wallpaper in our family room and I had enough left to cover the shelves of the built-in. I think the marriage of Venetian plaster with this beautiful wallpaper gave an extra warmth to the entire space.

So, here are the three versions… before, after with wood shelves and after with Venetian plaster and wallpaper. I would still like to make some changes to the cabinet doors, but that will come a little later.

A look through the three versions of the built-in

To conclude, there is nothing like natural materials. Not only are they healthy and non-toxic, durable and timeless but they ass so much beauty to your space. So Venetian plaster in your living room is absolutely beautiful, and will also be in many other spaces. If you’re looking to make a project, check-out Venilux Quebec, their quality is great!
